After she hands him the ring, he stands up to watch her and Raoul sail away. He's holding the ring in his hand, palm up. The next shot shows him still with palm open and he runs over to grab the candlesticks to bash in the mirrors before leaving. Nowhere do you see him put the ring in a non-existant pocket or the ring falling to the ground. Yet he was able to place the same ring on a fresh rose at her gravesite many years later. Did he go back to his underground lair at a later date to retrieve the ring or did he have it with him the entire time via optical illusions?

Just because you don't see it going into his pocket or elsewhere, doesn't mean he didn't put it there.
It could just be a mistake, I wouldn't look too much into it.
