Flight of the Valkyries by Wagner is very famous and often represents those massive forces coming together for battle. -If you think you don't know it, you do... everybody knows it.

Whatever you do, DON'T use "O Fortuna" from "Carmina Burana" -- it's been done to death in films.

I would highly recommend you listen to Act One of the Puccini opera "Turandot". The chorus is engaging in bloodlust and want someone executed, so the music is barbaric and exciting and kicks butt.
Ride of the Valkeries by Wagner.

I can just see people fighting to that one!
I would use Mozart's Requiem. It has fast and dramatic pieces.
One and three stole my answer. :]

Eastenders because its good!!
emmerdale coz its funny not always depressing like the other ones
It used to be Dark Shadows when i was a kid.
Days Of Our Lives

been on the longest, has best history, even though sometimes the storylines are lame... still best!
I have to say Eastenders because all the other soaps are for old people or Northerners (no offence intended).
General Hospital. I started watching it with my mom when I was 5
H%26amp;A as its so unbeleivably c**p its a good way to unwind %26amp; switch off.
emmerdale i dig the chicks in it esp katie sammy winward
The Y and the R.....I don't know why...Just started watching it yrs. ago....
Corrie....can't beat it!!
As the World Turns. I've watched it since I was 5 (I'm 55 now) so I've grown up with some of the characters. True, some of the storylines get annoying, and I just wish they were over, but thanks to my DVR, I can fast forward through the parts I don't care about.
well im from australia and my fav soap opera is neighbours it is never the same going on and unlike days of our lives it has a plot all the time and it also gives you emotions towards it as in the actors are putting all thier effort in to make it real for you to get emotional.its not like other soapoperas which have to steal every thing from opponents like for instance we have anthor soap opera here in australia called home and away and when neighbours has a wedding or death you should realise what there next week is going to be a wedding or if it was a death a death and hame and away always has new people or people taking over other roles/characters it is the most faboulas show on this planet i rekon and i think alot of people in australia can say pretty much the same
Daz
AMC!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Susan Lucci plays the BEST Diva on the tube!

I've been watching it over 30 years.
One Life to Live. I don't know there is just something about it. The story lines are interesting, and then of coures there is Todd!
Prisoner Cell Block h cause it had great acting, great story lines and the props like walls, bars and doors never moved
And these are the Days of Our Lives - you can never see someone get possessed too many times or have amnesia forever then be fine, crazy show!
Coronation Street every time - it is humorous, and not generally full of horrible people swearing and shouting at each other.

It only occasionally deals with a "social issue" and this never gets in the way of the story lines.

The Phantom of the Opera... Does someone wanna help me?

Many of you guys may think Im physco and maybe I am, but if you havent already guessed I am completley IN LOVE with the Phantom I saw the movie 2 years ago and first I became obsessed with it watching it every day and bawling my head off every time then I had to see the play and read the book But really it mostly has to do with the movie you see my obsession kind of developed into this longing desire to be with him I had always thought he was EXTREMELY ATTRACTIVE (not just the actor but I mean the character) I even thought with his mask off he was still beautiful And I realized that everything about him was perfect for me And now you don't even know how much I love him and don't think that just because he's not real that I dont really love him cuz I do TRUST me its real love because I have never felt this way b4 and I think about him CONSTANTLY I cry whenever I see couples together or anything with love or sex cuz it breaks my heart and I feel like im suffocating without him. HELP!

The Phantom of the Opera... Does someone wanna help me?windows live messenger

How am I supposed to answer this? What's the question? Are you crazy? If so, the answer is maybe. See, you may not be completely crazy, because I kind of know how you feel. I have the biggest obsession with The Outsiders. I've read the book five times in four weeks. I cleaned up my brother's nasty room for money to buy the movie. I mean, I probably know every word to the movie and book. I've analzed every detail. I understand what you're saying. I have this huge obsession with Sodapop from the book (not the actor, just the character.) I mean, he could be the ugliest person and I would still hink he was hot. It's because he has a heart of gold, just like the guy from The Phantom of the Opera. He was totally in love with Christine and she never really loved him. It might have seemed like it at a point, but it was just pity. That's what made the Phantom so angry. I personally would have hate rather than pity any day, but that's just me. She always loved that other guy. Even though she hadn't spoken to him in like forever. I mean, the one of the reasons that Christine turned down the Phantom was because of his face. I wouldn't care, as long as he respected me and was nice. The Phantom DID respect her and was nice, in his own weird way, but yeah, he was nice to her. That's all. Hope it helps, bye!!!

I think you really need a boyfriend.
If you're serious, you've got it pretty bad. Try distracting yourself with a different obsession.
Well.....hmmm...Sounds like maybe you should go get perfessional help! YICKS
This love affair with a movie character is doomed. Even if you admitted to being in love with the actor, that would make you a bit more normal. The character, the story and events are all fiction. You are the equivilant to those geeks who believe "Star Trek" is more than just a show, that it is a way of life. This is 2007 and not the 1870's. Even all of Paris knows that.

Find a real boyfriend, he might not live up to your ideal, but he is somebody real who can love you and hold you.

If you are lucky, he will enjoy the movie and the musical as well; but try to live your own story; not the made up story by Gaston Leroux with music by Andrew Lloyd Webber.
you are in love with a pretend charector! i think you need some kind of psycologial intervention with a shrink that specialises in ocd and depresion issues.

what you have in not normal nor real.
continue to live in your fantasy world, you'll only be disappointed by the men in the real world.
I understand what you are going through because I've been going through the same thing with Will Turner from Pirates of the Caribbean for 4 years now. I mean I'm attracted to Orlando Bloom, so that might have something to do with it, but I just ADORE the character of Will Turner. Who wouldn't want to fall in love with him?

I cry when I see the Captain Jack and Elizabeth kiss because of Will's reaction to seeing it.

The Phantom of the Opera in London?

I heard it's cheaper to buy the ticket at the door on the day itself and the seat is quite good.

Anyone did? If so, how much was the price and how was the seat?

I searched for the price online and found that the price for 1 seat in Balcony is about 30 pounds.. Is it reasonable? Or??

Any suggestions?? Book online or buy on that day?

The Phantom of the Opera in London?windows media player 11

I'd wait and buy the day of, if you have the time to wait in line and won't be heartbroken if you don't get one (or if you get a less-than-stellar seat). The show's not new, so there are usually unsold tickets. Her Majesty's is not so big that you are likely to be sitting miles away.

30 quid for a ticket isn't horrible, but it ain't cheap either. Are you American? Depending on exchange rates, that's somewhere close to US$50-$60. You'll pay that much on Broadway, too, but it's still pricey for a theatre ticket.

And, worse case scenario, it'll probably still be playing next time you visit London. =)

The Phantom of the Opera in London?microsoft publisher internet explorer

In London theates, the tickets tend to run from 15 pounds (when the seats are really far away, really far to the side, or the view is obstructed) to about 60 pounds (best seats in the house). I saw Phantom of the Opera in London this past fall, and I believe I paid 50-55 pounds for seats on the far left of the first row of the balcony. 30 pounds is very reasonable for tickets (with the exchange rate that's about $60, but think of how much you'd pay in New York). But you can buy seats for that amount any time before the show, so if you want more choice in where you sit or how much you pay, then I recommend going by the theatre a couple days early.

That said, the show is great (if you haven't seen it already). And apparently the show was written for Her Majesty's Theatre, so you should see it there if you have the chance! I'm assuming Earl Carpenter is still the Phantom, and he's brilliant...but I'm not really answering your question anymore. :-)

I'm sorry, but I'm not sure about online ticket sales. I bought my tickets at the theatre. I know you can go on the day of the performance and buy unsold seats, but if you really want to go and you want decent seats, I'd go earlier.

Hope this helps!
It all depends on how much you want to see the show - don't forget that there are no guarantees that tickets will be available to purchase on the day.

If you do decide to take a chance and wait until the day - in addition to what the theatre has available you can also try the booth in Leicester Square on one of the many ticket agencies in and around the area.

Phantom is a wonderful show - well worth paying 锟?0 or more on.

Enjoy!

Anyone know some sad opera music?

G.Puccini - Tosca, very sad opera, Aria "E lucevan le Stelle"

G Puccini - Madame Butterfly very sad overall

G,F Handel - Rodelinda, all of it every single aria

G.F Handel - Radamisto based on L'amor Tirranico

G.F Handel - Rinaldo (two of the saddest arias ever "Lascia Ch'io Pianga" and "Cara Sposa"

Most of the work written for "Castrati" is very sad, Handel's operas were all written for counter tenors, try to find his works sung by counter tenors Andreas Scholl or Derek Lee Ragin, no mezzo sopranos who regularly replace counter tenors very poorly

Does anyone know where opera originated? For grade 5 .?windows installer

Opera originated in late 16th-century Florence when the musical declamation, lyrical monologues, and choruses of classical Greek drama, were reproduced in the style of that time.

One of the earliest opera composers was Jacopo Peri, whose Euridice influenced Claudio Monteverdi, the first great master of the operatic form. Initially solely a court entertainment, opera soon became popular, and in 1637 the first public opera house was opened in Venice. It spread to other Italian towns, to Paris (about 1645), and to Vienna and Germany, where it remained Italian at the courts but became partly German at Hamburg from about 1680.

Well, I downloaded Opera Browser and didn't really like it. Mozilla Firefox is much more better!

Web Browers used by percentage as of March, 2007:

IE - 78.6%

Firefox - 15.1%

Safari - 4.5%

Opera - 0.8%

Netscape - 0.7%

Have you heard of Opera browser? Do you use it? Is there a need for a 3rd web browser (after IE and Firefox)?windows media center internet explorer

Yes I have. The only time I use it was back in the day when Firefox was just Mozilla, IE sucked even more than it already does, and Safari wasn't invented.

I can't think of a use of a third browser, much less a second. IE is so incredibly obsolete its not even funny. And correct me if I'm wrong, but IE 7 is still in beta (and still sucks).
Opera browser is light compared to IE and Firefox. If you need the space, use opera. But firefox has better security and IE is usually faster to load. if you have IE and firefox, you'll be fine. I used IE and Firefox for school (computer science) and graphic design and I don't even need a third browser.
It's okay to me. I prefer Firefox though. It is also the only browser available for the Wii and soon the Nintendo DS (June 6th).

Anyone watch the soap opera, "Passions"?

Anyone watch the soap opera, "Passions"?windows mobile 6

Yes!! I am the ultimate fan. I love that show to pieces...you will probably have to buy Hidden Passions by Tabitha Lennox. It's a fictional book that's "been written" by Tabitha the evil witch of Harmony. This book gives a whole background from Alistair to Eve and T. C. There's a part II coming out that gives a better depth of Whitney, Chad and all the younger people of Harmony. Anyhoo, Fancy and Pretty are sisters and a long time ago when they were teenagers, Fancy took a crush from Pretty causing them to put a toll on their relationship. Also Fancy was a very mischevious girl and she would put a lot of the blame on Pretty and her family would believe Fancy over Pretty. Pretty hates her sister, her mother, and all of the Cranes since she is disinherited out of Alistair's will. She could possibly be the peeper/ blackmailer.

Try an operetta instead Pirates of Penzance ...or buy the cd's
Don Giovanni i saw it in 6th grade and loved it but it's kinda long or the Phantom of the opera but i think that's techinically a musical but it's still very good!! you might even want to try more musical's that aren't broadwayish but more towards classical they have plenty like MIss Saigon which is a really good one about vietnam war and Madame Butterfly which actually is an opera but yeah there are lots of musicals that don't stick to the whole broadway pop thing but are more classic and the stories are also very good
La Boheme is one of the most popular and shortest of the operas common to the repertoire. You can pick up a copy of the DVD of Baz Luhrmann's wonderful production. Puccini's ultra-romantic score is sung by young performers who actually look like lovers! (I find it hard to believe in a sweaty Rudolfo and a hefty Mimi.)
"Madam Butterfly" easy to follow the story - you'll be mesmerised and won't realise how long you're sitting!
Find a double-bill - two SHORT operas inthe spcae of a long one. Common pairings are Pagliacci and Cavelleria Rusticana. There are others - but if they are offering two short operas in one performance, you can get up, clear your head, and even go HOME if it is too much all at once! The stories are less involved, and it's just like watching an HOUR tv show instead of a movie. Just be afraid if they offer two WAGNER operas in an evening - there are people who delight in sitting through two 4-hour operas in a DAY - before and after dinner - because they are part of a huge 4-opera, 2-day epic sometimes called the Ring cycle - yeaah, same ring as the Lord of - different telling of the tale. Would you want to see ALL of the 3 Lord of the Ring movies on one day?? Some people would. Or ALL the Harry Potter movies in 2 days?? Some people would - most of us, not so much.
If you go to the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, you can buy cheap tickets and STAND somewhere at the back, so I'm told.

My own favourite opera star of the 20th century was the late Richard Tauber. He was Austrian and thankfully spend the war years here in London. He was without doubt the greatest opera star of the 20th C. Here is something which he composed and sang himself. He also made a number of recordings for the BBC.

Pat emigrated with the director

Peggy beat the living daylights out of every camera man on set because they shot her sideways.

And news has just come in that the Vic sank without warning into Den's grave!

And as for the square... Johnny Allen paid some bent screws to blast it into next week...

I think the new series is trying to stay in keeping with the current day issues... it's entitled... 'the east is where it ends'
All long running series, regardless of genre, go through slump periods where they either have to find new ways to reinvent themselves or decide to leave while they're still relatively on top of their game.

It's even worse for soap operas because of the daily production and presentation schedule for most of them.

You might want to write to the producers in support of the show to let them know you're still watching. But just remember PBS stations here in America are a bit behind in presenting BBC episodes.
This programme is about a bunch of depressing, argumentative misfits. It beats me how this awful prog has lasted this long.It is full of doom and gloom and should have been given the chop years ago. A soap needs a mixture of seriousness and humour which we see in Corrie which is great.
storylines are rubbish, too depressing.. Do you think wendy richards is leaving cos she knows something that we dont
I hope not I love it, don't care if I'm sad or whatever I love that prog better than Emmerdale or Hollyoaks anyday.

I think my fave British 1 is Corrie, I think me and my other half will be like Jack and Vera in yrs to come!! I also love Pobl Y Cwm (great Welsh soap!), But most of u prob never heard of it!
Coronation Street
Coronation Street.
Hollyoaks !!!! Even though I am 35 I love it
emmerdale or coronation street, how anyone can admit to liking eastenders is beyond me! it is the biggest pile of tripe on the box.
Eastenders , cos it's trash lol
It has to be Emmerdale.I have watched it since day one.
Eastenders
gotta be emmerdale then river city (a scottish soap)
i agree with you darling out of all of them eastenders is the best
Eastenders
Garnock Way
Eastenders
I love Hollyoaks and Neighbours (typical student!) - can't decide which is my favourite though
It's got be Hollyoaks. I used to like Corrie best but lately theur storylines have been either ridiculous or disgusting or just annoying.
Coronation Street. We haven`t been able to get Eastenders for about 5 years and Emmerdale for a few months here in Montreal. I loved them both but at least I have Corrie, I love it!
Coronation Street!!
I like them all but Eastenders has to be my favourite

In the time that Phantom of the Opera is based, people would wear multiple layers of the same garment.

It's also partially for "style"
That's true. I never thought about it. May be ones part is his uniform and the other his coat. Other wise he's just dumb. But that's ok hes cute so he still gets an a in my book. But I think the phantom's so much hotter. My favorite part is when they sing . Past the point of know return. God that's hot! U can feel the passion radiating from the to of them. If you want to talk more about the phantom of the opera just email . : )
Personally I think it's beacause he's stupid :-p haha no but its true what the other users have said, in that time it was just normal for many layers and such.

Okay... Phantom of the Opera fans..?

In the future of the movie (black and white) who is the girl with Roul? And.. also what does "keep your hands at the level of your eyes mean"????

Okay... Phantom of the Opera fans..?windows media player 10

Do you mean the older woman at the beginning of the movie with the Older Raoul? That is actually Madame Giry, not Meg but her mother. I know its weird but I've been on the website and seen the script and it says Madame Giry not Meg. She is just a LOT older.

"Keep your hands at the level of your eyes" is what Madame Giry says a lot because she knows the Phantom's choice weapon, the Punjab Lasso that he aquired in Persia. He enjoys killing people that way, strangling them. If you keep your hands at the level of your eye then you have a chance of preventing the lasso from choking you either by stopping it with your hand or keeping it away from your neck as it tightens. If you don't keep your hand up, then you don't have a chance.

Luciano Pavarotti, the famous Opera singer just recently died at the age of 71 from Pancreatic Cance

is one of the most aggressive and devasting forms of cancer. My question is, what causes this? Over eating? Over drinking of alcohol? I know Pav was very heavy, loved to eat and drink wine, etc. Or is do we just chalk it up as, natural causes why it happened? Are there ways to prevent your body from getting Pancreatic Cancer?

Good luck! I'm not a great fan of opera, but I miss Pavarotti.

Luciano Pavarotti, the famous Opera singer just recently died at the age of 71 from Pancreatic Cancer, which?windows xp sp2 internet explorer

lots of strain on the pancreas can be caused by yo-yo dieting...and he did alot of that...so did Caruso...
By going to school
My older brother died of it last year, the doctor said they felt it was caused by chemicals. I'm not sure what chemicals, my brother was a Priest and didn't have lots to do with chemicals. To be honest I don't think they know what causes it.
No one knows for sure. Recently some investigators postulated that pancreatic ca may be caused by chronic inflammation of the gums. There are probably several other causes that we only have an inkling about now.
The usual suspects are all linked to it: smoking, diabetes, diets high in meat, genetics, and obesity. But there are other things that are also linked to it, like long time exposure to gasoline, gingivitis, and stuff like that. It's pretty hard to know what causes it, like most other cancers. Pretty much, if you live long enough, you'll develop some sort of cancer.
pancreatic cancer is much higher in Japan than any other country. It is usually thought that the one big thing between their diets and those of other countries is the amount of salt. High salt diets have been shown to increase your risk. Dieting wouldn't do it.... you might also want to avoid meats that are preserved with nitrates as they would also cause damage to the lining of the pancreous like salt.
This is an impossible question to answer because no one knows what causes one person to get cancer while another one does not. In the vast majority of cases no one knows what caused the cancer . . but people for some reason always try to blame the person who has the cancer . . if we knew for a fact what caused cancer than we could all avoid it. But, the fact remains that even people who smoke do not always get cancer and there are those with lung cancer who never smoked. No one knows why anyone gets pancreatic cancer. It is far more likely that it is an internal 'cause' associated with an individuals DNA.

There is no known way to prevent pancreatic or any other cancer.

Going to the Metropolitan Opera And would like some comments on where to have dinner.?windows xp service internet explorer

hard to argue with Jean George's
Go to Cafe Luxembourg at 200 W 70th St, New York, NY 10023 - (212) 873-7411. It's a charming French bistro only a few blocks from the Met. The food and atmosphere are wonderful.
The above answers are good, as is Picholine on West 64th, just east of Broadway. If you are looking for something a little more "value concious" Fiorello's is good. It's on Broadway a block south off Lincoln Center.
Patsy's Italian Restaurant on 56th between 8th Ave and Broadway! They have a website. Their chef is amazing!!! Might even see a celebrity while you are there too!! I met Rudy G when I was there last time!!

Les Miserables was good, but I wish I'd seen Phantom of the Opera, my fave
My fiance is making me more cultural (i like it) and she would tell you Les Miserables. We are going to a play today called Triple Expresso.
Phantom 100%! It is just so great!
I've never seen either of those shows live on Broadway, but I like the music from POTO better.
It depends what kind of music u like better.

But Phantom of the Opera is really good on stage. It has a lot of detail.
Phantom of the Opera

was an incredible show.

I hope to see it again in Paris.

My fave; def.
Les Miserables is the better show. It's plot is far superior to Phantom's hackneyed melodrama (which is a fault of the source material, not really the actual shows).

Phantom left me cold--seemed like it was relying totally on stage effects to make the show, while the music was decidedly "tunesmithing" without much depth. Fairly typical for Lloyd-Webber, I suppose.

Les Miz has a rich, sweeping score (albeit somewhat too repetitive in the last half), far more interesting characters and a story that really tugs at the heart strings. Too bad the creators couldn't follow it up with comparable works, as Miss Saigon was a mess and later efforts even worse.
I prefer Les Miserables and I do like Broadway.

Not to offend Soap Opera Lovers but...?

I can't stand looking at those stupid magazines in the stores! The front covers look really stupid. They seem really dumb and gay. My grandma had one in her house because she is an avid soap lover with Young and the Restless and Bold and the Beautiful. Can you stand looking or reading those magazines?

I am a soap lover too. I like reading the magazines because it keeps me up to date on what is happening on my favorites shows. Sometimes i can't wait until Monday to find out what is going to happen. So - i go out and my my magazines - so i will know what is coming a head of time. How - do you think - how some people come up with spoiler for their favorite programs. The ones who can't wait to know what is going to happen. Like to read and get their information from the magazines.

Who designed the Sydney Opera , in what year?

well, the NSW Premier Joseph Cahill, ran a competition that had 233 entries, and the one that was picked was done by Jorn Utzon, a Danish architect. Formal construction began in March 1959, and the task of the project consisted of three stages. The Opera House was formerly completed in 1973, at a cost of $102 million

How to be an opera singer, im 18 its my dream!?

Good advice from your first answer. If you can, get into a performance programme, however, if you are just starting out.... read on...

The best advice (having been a singer all my life) is to find a good vocal teacher or coach, depending on your level. Go to the local university or conservatory and ask about teachers.

Ask your teacher for guidance in developing your voice and repertoire. Join a church choir and or a local operetta company like a Gilbert and Sullivan group. You will learn so much by actually singing with others and develop your own preferences. Sacred music is a fundamental training ground for singers. Most opera singers do perform in oratoria and large requiem masses such as the Berlioz Requiem, the Verdi Requiem, Handel's Messiah etc.

Once you are part of a musical society or church choir, talk to the soloists and find out who they study with - listen and learn.

Listen, listen and listen. Train your ear; it is as important or more important than your voice.

Good luck.

Go into acting instead and perform in musicals

I am an actor myself and I really hate opera singers having been in a show with them. They are selfish, arrogant, and big-headed. I hated having to perfomr in a show with then so please do the world a favor and don't be an opera singer instead be a musical actress

Who is the greatest opera tenor in history? Whay makes him better than the others?

Pavarotti, Correlli, Bjoerling, Caruso, Bergonzi, DiStefano, Gigli, Lanza, or someone else??

Who is the greatest opera tenor in history? Whay makes him better than the others?windows 98

Well, I will have to go with Luciano Pavarotti. He is considerably one of the best if not the best tenor from the 60's through the 90's. When he sings, his voice level can exceed very high. While managing to have quiet an elegant voice for a man I must say, he has also managed to keep his voice with longevity over the years which most will say gives him a younger voice well beyond his years. Luciano has also mastered the longevity of a career in itself having been a tenor for almost four decades while also still giving off his magnificent high and low variations to his capabilities.

Who is the greatest opera tenor in history? Whay makes him better than the others?microsoft support internet explorerMARIO LANZA HE FELT EVERY SONG HE SUNG AND HE SANG FROM THE HEART. Report It

I would have to say it was the Great Mario Lanza...he had such an outstanding, powerful voice...apparently (not sure if this is true), doctors/scientists actually studied his vocal chords after he died to see if there was anything remarkable that distinguished his voice from others.

In present time, Andre Bocelli has now surpassed Pavarotti due to his versatility in the ability to sing modern songs with such clarity. Give my eye teeth to hear either live!

Who is your favorite opera soprano? And why?

I will always remember seeing (and hearing) Patrice Munsel in my home town. She was very, very young and the audience simply would not let her leave the stage. I think it was her third or fourth encore and the only words to the song I can remember were...........

"if you want anymore you can sing it yourself". The audience went crazy but she left the stage for the last time. She was a lyric soprano and Kathleen Battle reminds me of her. Their personalities must be very different. Kathleen did herself a disservice by being difficult at the Met.

Who is your favorite opera soprano? And why?windows xp home

Libby I am liking your questions! Right now since I am studying alot of wagner arias. I am enjoying Regine Crespin. She is a french soprano who has the most luscious diamond like soprano. She is My model For Sieglinde!

I also love Leontyne Price! She is the mother of all budding sopranos. Her voice is like a large banner flowing in the wind! My favorite recording of hers is her travatore with placido domingo and Zubin mehta! (who i met last week.

But persoinally i am my favorite Soprano! If you are one too you should think the same about yourself!

As Simon Cowell said, he was a breath of fresh air. I am certainly looking forward to hearing him again. A truly amazing voice.
he was fantastic and the little girl yesterday who sang over the rainbow , i loved that boys dancing yesterday too the one who's mom set up the audition
Although I thought his singing was great I doubt his breath was! lol Did you see those teeth? Ant and Dec actually recoiled from him! :) I know that's really mean..
Well I was watching it last night, and there was a little girl, 6 yr old, who came on and she sang 'Somewhere over the rainbow'.

She een managed to get praise from Simon Cowell.

She had even reduced Amanda Holden to tears.

And let just say there wasn't a dry eye in our house.!!!
I thought he was amazing and I had a tear too!!! - why do these people go through most of their lives without being spotted - he should have been a star a long time ago!!
He was brilliant wasn't he? Totally unexpected and you are not alone in getting goose bups and lump in throat even my partner had a bit of a tear shh.
Well Amanda Holden did too didnt she?

I didnt cry but I was extremely impressed by him. Hope he does really well off the back of this prog.
It wasn't the first episode, that was on Sunday night.

I loved it when that woman with the cats came on stage and the whole thing was a disaster. One of her cats was bug-eyed and his eyes nearly popped out of his head when Simon Cowell hit the buzzer. I loved that! (It's a pity Ant McPartlin had a hissy fit about cat hairs on his clothes. Declan Donnelly didn't say anything even though he carried a cat as well. We know now who's the diva in that pair.)
god yea he was awsume who would have the guy would have a voice like that. that song always gets to me especially when it is Sang s good as that

Why do American soap opera never end?

i wish they would though

Why do American soap opera never end?windows registry

That's the nature of the genre.

Why do American soap opera never end?ie 6 internet explorer

Cuz they have too many drama going on and if it ever did end...a lot of actors would be out of jobs.
Because American's find them addictive, so they never stop watching, hence the soap oprahs never end.
they do that to keep people watching them their stories are never ending and people will keep watching in hopes that the story will eventually end lol
I'm not sure but it is weird how they go on FOREVER. My fave soap is Days of Our Lives. I've been watching it for like 12 years and sometimes I'm like "C'mon already but I'm hooked at the same time!!!
I don't know. I like the stories on the spanish channel. They end and there's closure. American soaps drag crap on forever.
Because they're nothing but pointless melodramas.
With creative writers and so many stories that have been told throughout the time of humans the soaps can go on and on. They don't have to represent real life (though some do), they can be purely fictional from aliens to angels! Without soaps what would everyone talk about and fantasize about?
bc the writers are always scraping their brains for a new story line....thats why they are so addicting....bc something is ALWAYS going on no matter what. thats why i love All My Children...and Young and the Restless. The two greatest soaps ever.
There is enough bad stuff going on in this world. Its fun to watch something bad and know its not reality.
What would be the fun in that???
A number of them have ended. The actors just move on to other soaps.

Can *anyone* become an opera singer?

Assuming they take classes, of course...

Can *anyone* become an opera singer?microsoft word download

no, I don't think so.

singing is a function built into the body, just as running is. Not everyone who jogs around the block has the wherewithall to become an Olympic runner.

Not everyone who enjoys singing has what it takes to get to the Olympic size-games of singing, either.

It takes at least 4-6 years of training in a university or conservatory setting, and then, you've only just started on a life-long search for continuous work. the business is as hard as the pop music biz. Contracts are of short duration, and if you're ok with selling shoes in between gigs, then you'll have no problems. Most of us don't really care to go backwards like that, but sometimes it becomes a necessity, especiially if you indulge in having a family and kids as well.

Only the very very few make it to the winner's podium, get recording contracts and year-round work.

Can *anyone* become an opera singer?internet explorer download internet explorer

if you put your mind to it then of course!

it's hard work though but rewarding indeed.
Well anyone can learn to sing opera, but a person has to have natural talent to excell...
lynndramsop is right. Besides, there is much more to opera than just singing. There may be a lot of physical demands, perhaps even dancing, plus some acting would be helpful.
No, you have to have talent and not everyone has the type of voice for opera, you have to study and then a teacher will tell you if you have what it takes to be an opera singer !!!!! Some people this comes naturally and others have a voice that can be trained, Mario Lanza was a perfect example of a natural voice.

Has anyone used the Opera browser?

It seems like its in its infancy. Pretty simple. Was this started outside the US?

Has anyone used the Opera browser?ie

Yes it was...

Opera started out as a research project in Norway's largest telecom company, Telenor, in 1994, and branched out into an independent development company named Opera Software ASA in 1995.

Has anyone used the Opera browser?microsoft internet explorer

ya its work just try it
It's been around for a few years now but just hasn't taken off the same way Firefox did.

I used it for a while .... it's pretty fast but basic.

Firefox is much better
It has been around for years.

I prefer Firefox.
Don't know what version of opera you have ?

Bit basic? Far from it

The GUI may look basic but you can change this as much as you like - faster than IE and firefox

Compares well with Firefox

Tabbed browsing - Voice commands - Excellant web mail client - Torrent download manager - Widgets - preview tab - excellant sypware and anti phishing tools - excellant pop up blocker - Mouse short cut movements - trash can (this feature cann't live without) - extremley fast

The new IE is trying to catch up - still falls short

The new firefox from motzilla is also trying to catch up - but apparently there are many flaws in their new update (still like firefox though)
I use it and Firefox all the time. Only about 0.5% of the people use Opera, this keeps you well below the radar of hackers and other bad guys.
It has been told that Opera has better CSS support than Firefox, but then again I have also heard of people saying many sites do not display correctly in Opera. Rather use Firefox.

Recommend a good space opera?

i am look for a multi-volume freaking awesome sci-fi epic adventure/romance story anyone have a good suggestion

Recommend a good space opera?internet explorer

Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams, now deceased, unfortunately. It's got everything you describe and a few new ones. See Wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Hitchhi... for links, explanations, summaries et al.

Recommend a good space opera?microsoft office internet explorer

The guy above beat me too it. Hitchhikers is the best space series ever. So funny. Get a copy, the paperback ultimate edition(all five books) is only seventeen dollars.
Hitchhiker's Guide is a comedy - not a romance. Plus, I found it pretty lousy (and I *love* most scifi). My off-the-cuff recommendation is the "Dragonriders of Pern" series by Anne McCaffrey http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dragonrider... . The men are portrayed as very aggressive and violent toward women (rape is the usual form of romance in the early books). However, the stories are excellent (despite this), and later books become much less sexually violent. The 3,4, and 5 books (Dragonsong, Dragonsinger and Dragondrums) are excellent, probably my favorite female character portrayal ever. Later books are heavier on romance. I think this series will definitely fit your criteria.

2nd choice: the Elijah Baley novels by Asimov. Although there is no romance to speak of in the 1st book, the 2nd has quite a bit and the 3rd seems to be overly concerned with it - which means you will like it. The great thing about these books is that they are murder mysteries - scifi murder mysteries. Truly excellent. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elijah_Bale...

I recommend that you read Asimov's "I, Robot" before reading the Elijah Baley books. Although very limited in romance, the whole "3 Laws of Robotics" is studied in detail in these excellent short stories. Even if you were not planning on reading the Elijah Baley books, this is probably the only scifi story I would consider "must read". Since Elijah Baley books are also concerned (at least tangentially) with the 3 laws, it is really useful to read this book first.

Unfortunately, I can think of no other scifi series that has any considerable (for me, too much) romance.

Will learning to sing opera affect my normal singing voice?

I'm worried that I won't be able to sing in a non-operatic style, is this a legitimate concern?

Will learning to sing opera affect my normal singing voice?ies

From a totally personal perspective... I started singing as a very young child (age of 2) and I got into musical theater at the age of 8. I was a natural belter, and they used to call me a little Ethel Merman.

By the time I got into college, I had great power in my lower register, and my higher register was really weak, and my break was just awful.

I started studying voice, and we covered operatic style. It helped me learn the proper way to breathe, the proper way to stand to support my voice. I learned to think of the voice horizontally, rather than vertically. I wasn't reaching for the high notes anymore, I was just changing the way I breathed, and changing the pitch of the note... And my crowning achievement was singing the "Queen of the Night's Laughing Song" from the Magic Flute for my juries my third year.

Now I sing Celtic music professionally. I'm still a belter. But the difference is that my upper register is almost as strong as my lower, and when I want to sing the high, pretty stuff, I can.

Absolutely study operatic technique. You will learn so much!

Will learning to sing opera affect my normal singing voice?windows update internet explorer

no, you'll still be able to sing other styles.
Shouldn't be. It might become the most comfortable for you to sing because you're familiar with it, but it doesn't mean you can't learn and sing other styles.
It depends on the tones of ur voice high or low and how long u can manage one tone...if all is there with u! then u'll become an opra singer for sure!
It certainly won't harm your voice, but increasing your technical resources will give you options that will probably take your style to places you weren't thinking about before. The challenge will become how much technique to let go of, so as not to overdo pop songs. Check out Charlotte Church for proof that high grade operatic voices can do rock and pop well, if they know what they are doing.
Learning to sing operatically will give you a set of tools you can apply to any other genre of music. You might not sound the same way you do now, but you will (ideally) learn a healthy consistent method of singing. You will be able to have a much longer career if you approach singing with proper technique, not to mention, the fact that once you start to learn to sing opera, you may not want to sing any other style.
It is a legitimate concern only if you will *really* value what you are calling your normal singing voice, something you can't know ahead of your experience. Maybe you will not wish to return to it at all!

I wish you had specified what exactly your "normal singing voice" is like, and what the "non-operatic style" means to you. It could mean a concern about singing in the shower, or just lofting off a little Christmas carol in less than your full regalia. { Full regalia is for singing Christmas carols solo for parties, less than that is for making Christmas cookies.}

Also, singing in a non-operatic style might mean a wish to sing like a French chanteuse like Edit Piaf or singing the music of Jacaques Brel weekends, just for a lark; a dangerous wish, but fun. Just *ask* me! I love love love to do that, but I am always sorry, although not as sorry as I am when I work myself into my Louis Armstrong imitation.

To be frank, it if is anything but a little la-la here and there, you will dis-orient your operatic voice. It is hard enough to find it and maintain it, much less veer off-center into another style. You can do a little pop, for example. However it will always need to be centered in the operatic sound. You won't sound like an opera singer in full regalia, you will just sound better. Years ago there was a singer, Eileen Farrell, a dramatic soprano of some size who also sang things like "On the Sunny Side of the Street" but she sounded like an upscale Sophie Tucker, just not so chesty!

As for today's singers doing the same thing, you might like to listen to Kiri Te Kanawa singing "The Heart is Slow to Learn" on YouTube.... She really is a diva, in fact she is Dame Kiri, having been given that honor by Queen Elizabeth II.

And you might like to look into the singing of Barbara Cook who sings pop but was trained properly, in fact making stardom in Leonard Bernstein's "Candide"

What you do with your voice is really important. In her book about singing, Lilli Lehmann, the German soprano (1848-1929), said that when she was a student still living with her mother, if she sang any arias before noon, her mother (who also knew voice) would always call to her to stop, with the admonition that she would pay for it later. Her regimen was to sing long, slow scales every morning to set her voice in order, then the afternoon was for music. Mme Lehmann reported that with much chagrin, she discovered her mother was right.

This all reminds me of a story about Joan Sutherland, the Austrialian diva. The author who tells the story was staying with Sutherland in her home to gather information, and found Dame Joan sitting in a chair in the kitchen one morning, making fruit salad, and humming to herself. He was aghast because she sounded just like everyone else humming. When the gentleman mentioned it to her, she was very amused. I don't remember her retort, but it was to the affect that she, like all trained singers, could do all the things that everyone else could do .....and more!

I think that last story just about sums up the answer to your question!

Sorry to be so verbose and best of luck to you.

What is the migny opera hotel like in paris?

My 14yr old daughter is there on a school trip. I have read reviews on trip advisor and I am not impressed. Has anybody stayed there and what was it like.

What is the migny opera hotel like in paris?internet explorer download

Just out of curiosity I read the reviews you have reference to. I notice that one person who thinks its just a "terrible hotel" has this to say "The breakfast if thats what you can call it, was 1 piece of french stick and 1 croissante and cup of black sludge they said was coffee."

Guess what? This person is a moron.

They are used to drinking the watery brown substance Les Anglais call coffee (or tea..sometimes its hard to tell) and having eggs, bacon and baked beans for breakfast. It never once occurred to them that things are different in France.

Be that as it may, I would not have booked a school trip with young teenagers into this hotel. It is, in fact, surrounded by sleazy sex shops and clip joints and there are prostitutes cruising the area.

Even worse, the aforementioned "atttractions" bring hordes of drunken louts to the area (like the ones who complained that the hotel charged them for trashing the room).

Whomever was organizing this trip clearly wasn't qualified to do so.

What is the migny opera hotel like in paris?windows xp internet explorer

I have not stayed there. However the rating is fair. There was only one disgruntled traveller and judging by the picture, it is minor....

If you have been to Paris, this hotel appears to be typical of the middle of the road, travellers hotels. If we want to stay inexpensively, in North America we would stay some place like a Red Roof, Hotel 8 or Holiday Inn Express. This is the Parisian version of that type of hotel. She will be fine. In fact she will have a wonderful time. Montmartre is a wonderful, historically artistic section of the city. I would stay in that hotel. No problem. Don't worry Mom!

Looking at the pictures on the website with my husband just now....we think it is quite charming! We would stay there no problem. We have different standards of what seems to be okay in North America. This is "Paris", charming, stylish, not necessarily expensive but with some style and panache. Lovely little boutique hotel. Stay calm Mom...it is European style...
Read reviews as well on French sites, seems to be an average middling hotel with ups and down. Most people complained about the noisy street.

The hotel is in a back street, 300m away from Pigalle and away from the noise and red district partying, so not as bad an area as that, there's not complaint about that in the sites I checked. But still I agree with Rillifane, this is not a area where I would have chosen to book rooms for 14 years old.
Have a look ..http://www.gtahotels.com/hotels/migny_op...

In the phantom ofthe opera movie christine seems really into the sexy duet with the phantom jealous

You have hit the spot right where my spirit went in this movie. The music was so compelling and emotionally moving to me i cried so much till i thought i,d forget to come down to reality. To me every duet was sexy to the point my spirit was drained and and off to all the duets because of the love they had for Christine. The Phantoms wanting her for his complete fullfillment for his great love of music was his dream the ending hurt so bad I could not bare any more.Jealous yes but her in the end.

In the phantom ofthe opera movie christine seems really into the sexy duet with the phantom jealous raoul ?windows mobile internet explorer

He's jealous! Hahaha, I always thought that she should end up with the phantom in the end....
Maybe a little bit. I had the impression that it was the Phantom who was jealous. Just before he appeared in the mirror, he was questioning Christine about Raoul. During as well as just after Christine's and Raoul's duet on the rooftop, you could see that the Phantom was jealous.
I would have been really into a sexy duet with him too. I watched that movie thinking the whole time that she would for sure end up with the phantom, what a let down. She definitely had a sexual vibe with the phantom anyway, and ya i think that they did try to portray Raul as jealous.
i didn't see the movie but i saw the broadway in Nyc
Yes, Patrick Wilson who played "Raoul," says in the 2-Disc edition special features that during the filming of the scene, he felt a twinge of jealously over "Christine." I believe he mentions that his thought was to the effect of "hey, that's MY girl." So yes, he did admit that this moment was caught on film and used. Takes a while to get to it, but its in the making of sections (they're super long and there are a few of them).

What is your favorite opera and why?

Please don't just list names. Give your opinion on that composer/work and its influence/inspiration/insight and how it makes you feel. :)

What is your favorite opera and why?ireland

I have to say that I love anything by Puccini, but I must agree with ballerina_kim. I love Massenet's "Thais!"

I had never heard of it until about a year and a half ago, when the local opera company included it in their season. I was in the chorus, and became intimately familiar with the story and the music. Massenet was a genius in how he expressed the feelings of the story through his music. The story is amazing, though someone dies (but if they didn't, it wouldn't be a good opera! haha!). I highly suggest this opera to anyone; it's good for dancers because, as is the trend in French Operas, it calls for a ballet, and lots of dancing. For singers/musicians, it's Massenet, so you're guaranteed to hear some good music! I would also say it's good for opera newbies, because the story incorporates things most of us can relate to in our lives today: partying, drinking, sex, religion, love, relationships, money, etc....

Check it out. The only available recording has Renee Fleming as Thais, and she is stunning (it's before her jazz roots started to come through!).

What is your favorite opera and why?microsoft outlook internet explorer

Cosi Fan Tutte is my favorite story. The song the sisters sing together about how things have been turned around and never being the same again struck a chord with me.

My favorite aria is from The Magic Flute - Queen of the Night. I have no idea about his influence/inspiration/insight. I know it's lovely.
Well I love almost every opera I see, so right now it's Thais. I LOVE "mediations" and the aria "Dis-moi Que Le Suis Belle"

The scenery is so lush and I love the dance scene too. It's in French and I actually understand it.
Carmen by Bizet is my favorite opera. I love how I can drag my friends to see it and they actually like it, because the storyline is interesting and there are several songs that standout and are equally famous.
I like Tommy, its a rock opera, but its a really good opera, nonetheless.
Okay, so far I haven't seen an opera I didn't like. So, I'll list them, and why:

1) Die Zauberfl?te (The Magic Flute)

Music Composed by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart

I love Mozart: it has an order to it that I prefer to Romantic era music. This was good because it was funny, it moved well, and the music was always entertaining. The characters were great, and you liked pretty much all of them at one point or another: even the villans.

2) Don Giovanni

Again, Mozart is great. This opera was a bit more thick, though, and less mystical than The Magic Flute. Mozart can also make fun of himself, which is nice. I also saw the Commendatore Scene (or part of it) on the movie Amadeus (my favorite movie - the one which made me want to write my own music). Later, I saw the latter part of the last act of the opera on a Public Broadcast Station, and loved it. Even though Don Giovanni is shovanistic womanizing pig, he gets it in the end, and things turn out all right. I loved it!

3)Die Entfuhrung aus dem Sarai (Spell? The Abduction from the Seraglio)

My brother bought this for me on DVD, and I loved it!! Also by Mozart, it filled with his style of humour and flows as well as both Don Giovanni and The Magic Flute. Another great one - fun to watch.

4) Iphiginie en Tauride (Spell?)

This is a Gluck opera from the Baroque era. I saw this as a stage performance, and it was magnificent! Beautiful music and good ending, this is based on a Greek tradgedy and is really beautiful. (I only saw it once, so I can't remeber the plot too well - sorry)

5) Gilbert and Sullivan's: The Mikado

I performed in an orchestra for this, and loved it! We were actually out in a courtyard, and so it was all too tempting to look over and try and watch what was going on. A wondeful satire, filled with great British humor. Has the famous Aria of "Three Little Maids from School are We", and many other great improvised things, such as the Lord High Executioner's personalized aria, and the Mikado's "to make the punishment fit the crime" aria.

6) Gilbert and Sullivan's:The Pirates of Penzance

My brother was both a pirate and a police officer in a performance of this, and I have seen it elsewhere as well, and it is also a great comedy to watch, full of puns, and obsurd 'honor' being taken to the extreme in a ridiculous manner parodying older opera where two people meet once and fall in love, but have to fight for honor, etc. etc. Great fun! Has the ever famous Aria "I am the very Model of a Modern Major General".

7) La Bohem

I only saw it once, but it was beautiful, and I was sure sad at the end, but I finshed watching thinking: 'that was great!' and being very fulfilled.

Most operas from the Boroque to the Classical era should be good, if you are trying to find which one to watch, or to buy or listen to. Opera is great though.
My absolute favorite opera so far is "The Barber of Seville." I saw the production in Omaha, NE some years back while I was working on my undergraduate degree. I loved it. I enjoyed how the performers sang and acted in this comedy. As a matter of fact, I show parts of the opera to my 6th grade music students.
i love queen of the night by mozart-it is beautiful, there's a really nice ring to it, and mozart was really popular, and the name just sounds romantic, and totaly fits the song because it sound exciting at first then it becomes quiter, until it errupts again its an awesome piece of work
Don Giovanni by Mozart. A work of genius.
I Pagliacci. Short. Dramatic. Touching. Terrific characters; what a stroke of genius to align the standard neopolitan characters to the traits of the actors portraying them. The music is fully integrated to the drama: it rises to match the story beat for beat. There is a lot of beautiful music in I Pagliacci.
Nothing is as touching for me as Der Rosenkavalier.

The stylish decadence combined with the gorgeous music transports me to an absolutely unique place.

I love opera, and have a strong knowledge of the medium. Depending upon my mood I might enjoy anything from War and Peace or Pique Dame to Orfeo, or even King Roger. But, Der Rosenkavalier has a different effect. It just couldn't be better. It is like eating Belgian chocolate. It is apart from everything else.

I would be happy to hear from you if you want to talk opera.
Just because no one has included this...Wozzeck, by Alban Berg. Understanding the complex compositional processes and structure of the opera enriches the aural intake of it. And who can't love that cheery sunny expressionist plot?
