I love listening to Opera, and I want to go, but I can't stand sitting for too long, can anyone

King George V of Great Britain was renowned for disliking operas, and when questioned which was his favourite he said "La Boheme". When asked why he liked it, his answer was "because it's the shortest".

Try an operetta instead Pirates of Penzance ...or buy the cd's
Don Giovanni i saw it in 6th grade and loved it but it's kinda long or the Phantom of the opera but i think that's techinically a musical but it's still very good!! you might even want to try more musical's that aren't broadwayish but more towards classical they have plenty like MIss Saigon which is a really good one about vietnam war and Madame Butterfly which actually is an opera but yeah there are lots of musicals that don't stick to the whole broadway pop thing but are more classic and the stories are also very good
La Boheme is one of the most popular and shortest of the operas common to the repertoire. You can pick up a copy of the DVD of Baz Luhrmann's wonderful production. Puccini's ultra-romantic score is sung by young performers who actually look like lovers! (I find it hard to believe in a sweaty Rudolfo and a hefty Mimi.)
"Madam Butterfly" easy to follow the story - you'll be mesmerised and won't realise how long you're sitting!
Find a double-bill - two SHORT operas inthe spcae of a long one. Common pairings are Pagliacci and Cavelleria Rusticana. There are others - but if they are offering two short operas in one performance, you can get up, clear your head, and even go HOME if it is too much all at once! The stories are less involved, and it's just like watching an HOUR tv show instead of a movie. Just be afraid if they offer two WAGNER operas in an evening - there are people who delight in sitting through two 4-hour operas in a DAY - before and after dinner - because they are part of a huge 4-opera, 2-day epic sometimes called the Ring cycle - yeaah, same ring as the Lord of - different telling of the tale. Would you want to see ALL of the 3 Lord of the Ring movies on one day?? Some people would. Or ALL the Harry Potter movies in 2 days?? Some people would - most of us, not so much.
If you go to the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, you can buy cheap tickets and STAND somewhere at the back, so I'm told.

The link below should take you to the info you want, about the standing area I mean: -

My own favourite opera star of the 20th century was the late Richard Tauber. He was Austrian and thankfully spend the war years here in London. He was without doubt the greatest opera star of the 20th C. Here is something which he composed and sang himself. He also made a number of recordings for the BBC.

The song who made him famous, from film "Das Land des L?chelns", Tauber invested

his own money in this document, at the time it was a flop.

Become a promenader at the Albert Hall. You can stand for the duration.

(Can't stand sitting for too long or can't sit standing for too long? Tut!)
There will be at least one interval, so you should be OK!

Request a seat at the end of a row so you can stand up at the side if you need to.
