What is your favorite opera from Wagner's Der Ring des Nibelungen and why?

Choose from

Das Rheingold

Die Walkure

Siegfried

Gotterdammerung

Mine is Die Walkure because it was the first one I knew of Wagner's for a long time.

Die Walkure!

It has one of the more interesting and twisted plots; and near the end where Wotan has to goodbye to Brunhilde - wow. His words at first are harsh, but the music has such longing, such remorse! And the final prophetic signaling of Siegfried's theme (he's not born yet!) as the one who will dare to rescue Brunhilde - pure genius, I think.

I also find Die Walk眉re the most accessible. Actually, the only one of the four I don't like as much is Das Rheingold, because it just takes so long to get all this "pre-history" going.

My favorite line comes in G?tterd?mmerung, where the oh so naive Siegfried cuts away Brunnhilds's body armor and says, But this is no man! Knowing how most of us ladies are built, by the time we sing this role, it always gets a good laugh!
