The Phantom of the Opera....fact or fiction?

I've read the book and i found it really interesting. Do you believe Erik was real? Or do you think he was made up by the author? I have seen some things on the internet that backs up the truth of his existence, but i don't know really. If you have any links that proves/disproves the storyline i would appreciate it ^.^ blessed be.

The Phantom of the Opera....fact or fiction?ie

I've read the Tarzan version, Le Monstre: a comic. Tarzan is at home in that theatre; he can swing all the ropes, dive from balconies to save his sweet honey, which had been kidnapped by the phantom.

Beautiful! That theme has been chewed over and over. Always some spectacular mystery.

So, where does that story come from: true fiction?

true
In one of the newer editions of Gaston Leroux's book, they've reprinted an article that was written by him shortly after the Phantom was published. The work is complete fiction. Leroux got the idea when he was on a tour of the Paris Opera House. He got to see the catacombs beneath the house and the lake that runs under it and began formulating the story from that point. In fact, he borrowed the storyline from a well known fairy tale "Beauty and the Beast" just replacing music as the fatal attraction. And remember, when you think of "Beauty and the Beast" we're not talking the flowery Disney story. The original by Gabrielle-Suzanne Barbot de Villeneuve is very horrible and tragic.

Yes, it's a romantic story and would be great if it were true...but it isn't.
