The Phantom of the Opera fiction or nonficton?

and The Chosen

"The Phantom of the Opera" is fiction. Although Leroux presents the story as fact through interviews and saying so outright, the truth is that these techniques are only used for effect.

Never heard of The Chosen, but the Phantom of the Opera is a Fictitious story based in a real opera house.
Phantom of the opera is fiction
Fiction. Originally a French novel by Gaston Leroux in 1909.

The Chosen is a pretty common title, but if you're thinking about the play by Chaim Potok, that's fiction too.
Fiction!
Actually, people are finding proof that the story of the Phantom may be true. In an interview with Gaston Leroux's great great grandaughter, she says that over 70% of the novel is true... and that includes the love affair. There really was a chorus girl named Christine Daae, and she really did go missing. There was a de Chagny family. There was someone that lived under the Opera House and he did have a facial disfigurement. The story may not be 100% true, but I do think that it's a nonfictional story.

No one really knows if it's fact or fiction. I believe that it's true... for the most part, but I don't think any of us will ever know until we're dead and gone.

As for The Chosen, I've never heard of it. I'll have to read it.
